A renamed farm town's roofs are mostly recent
The settlement that became Avon, known at various points as Hampton, White Lick, Smootsdell, and New Philadelphia, remained agricultural well into the twentieth century and didn't incorporate as a town until 1995, so most Avon roofs postdate that incorporation and reflect current Hendricks County construction standards.
Older farm-era roofs near the original township core
The handful of older agricultural properties near Avon's original Washington Township settlement pattern, including land tied to the area's post-Civil-War farming history, still carry roof systems considerably older than the subdivisions around them — worth inspecting closely after any of central Indiana's regular severe-storm events.
